Following the heartbreaking passing of his mother Amina at Al-Abwa, the orphan Muhammad (pbuh) returned to Mecca under the caring supervision of his grandfather, Abdul Muttalib, the chieftain of the Quraish.
A Special Place by the Kaaba
Abdul Muttalib had a special couch placed in the shade of the Kaaba. His own sons would gather around it out of respect, but none dared sit upon it except the young Muhammad. When his uncles tried to gently hold him back, Abdul Muttalib would say, "Leave my grandson, for by God he has a great future!"
The grandfather cherished him for two years until Abdul Muttalib himself reached the age of eighty and fell gravely ill, entrusting the boy to Abu Talib.
