Abdullah ibn Masud (ra) was a humble young shepherd tending the flocks of Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'ayt in the hills of Mecca when he first met the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) accompanied by Abu Bakr (ra).
The First Encounter & The Miracle of the Milk
When asked if he had milk to quench their thirst, young Abdullah refused respectfully, pointing out that the sheep were entrusted to his care. Impressed by the boy's honesty and trustworthiness, the Prophet smiled and touched the udder of a barren sheep, which filled miraculous milk.
Becoming the Keeper of the Prophetic Secrets
Abdullah embraced Islam shortly thereafter and remained closely attached to the Prophet. He came to be known as the keeper of the Prophet's sandals, wooden miswak, and water vessel, learning the recitation of the Holy Qur'an directly from the lips of the Messenger.
